Welcome to our website

The Carmelite Monastery in Preston was founded from the London Carmel of

Notting Hill in 1917. We have just celebrated our Centenary, so for 100 years we have been part of the local community, and now, together with two thriving groups of Secular Carmelites, maintain the Carmelite presence in our city.

The name Preston in ancient usage means Priest’s town and serves as a reminder to us that one of our main obligations is to pray for Priests.

This is how two of our Camelite saints saw their vocation. “In the heart of the Church my mother I will be love.” (St Therese) and “A Carmelite is one who has beheld the crucified, who has seen him offering himself to his father as a victim for souls and has willed to give herself as he did.” (St Elisabeth of the Trinity).
